Student Defense Announces Hiring of Colorado Assistant AG Libby DeBlasio Webster
Webster will serve as Senior Counsel and Co-Director of the Postsecondary Equity & Economics Research (PEER) Project

Student Defense today announced the hiring of Olivia “Libby” DeBlasio Webster, who will serve as Senior Counsel and Co-Director of the Postsecondary Equity & Economics Research (PEER) Project. Webster comes to Student Defense from the Colorado Department of Law where she most recently served as Senior Assistant Attorney General. Webster brings vast experience in consumer protection and has a proven track record of holding for-profit colleges and universities accountable.

“No college student should have to shoulder the burden of being defrauded by higher education profiteers,” said Webster. “Student Defense has accomplished so much towards combating institutional fraud through advocacy and litigation, and I’m excited for this opportunity to continue fighting for students and consumers across the country.”

During her time with the Colorado Attorney General, Webster held a number of critical positions including Assistant Attorney General, Acting First Assistant Attorney General of the Consumer Fraud Unit, and Student Loan Ombudsperson. She’s led complex investigations and enforcement actions against several for-profit colleges and universities that were accused of defrauding students, as well as having served on the Department of Education’s 2013 negotiated rulemaking committee for the Gainful Employment Rule. Most recently, Webster has focused her attention on seeking discharge of federal student loans on behalf of student borrowers defrauded by their schools.

“Libby’s deep experience in consumer protection and student loan issues, particularly working to prevent fraud by for-profit colleges, will bolster our continued efforts to protect students and borrowers,” said Student Defense President and Cofounder Aaron Ament. “We’re thrilled to have her on board and look forward to leveraging her knowledge and expertise in our fight to ensure higher education remains a launchpoint for students’ economic mobility.”
